New Zealand Curriculum Te Marautanga o Aotearoa

These documents provide guidance to schools that help to determine the direction of student learning, from two unique perspectives. Both documents have the development of key competencies at their core, so that ākonga may study and learn to their full potential.

About the National Curriculum

The National Curriculum includes two documents:

  • The New Zealand Curriculum — the official document that sets the direction for teaching, learning, and assessment in all English medium state and state-integrated schools in New Zealand.
  • Te Marautanga o Aotearoa — describes the essential knowledge, skills, values and attitudes appropriate to Māori-medium schools.
