The Vision Book: My Child, Our Journey – Te Puka Moemoeā: Tōku Tamaiti, Tō Tātou Huarahi is a new book for parents, caregivers, families and whānau of children and young people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision.
Ko Te Puka Moemoeā: Tōku Tamaiti, Tō Tātou Huarahi – The Vision Book: My Child, Our Journey he pukapuka hou mō ngā mātua, ngā kaitiaki, ngā whānau me ngā hapori o ngā tamariki me ngā rangatahi e matapo ana, e matapo-turi ana, e iti ana rānei te kite.

The Vision Book has education information about the people, help and services that are available, right from those early years all the way through to early adulthood. Families, whānau and people living with a vision impairment also share their stories and insights. It’s a great resource to keep on hand, and it’s been written so that you can dip into it whenever you need it.
It has been written by the Ministry of Education with help from the Ministry of Health, Blind and Low Vision Education Network NZ (BLENNZ), the Blind Foundation, community groups, parents and professionals throughout New Zealand.

Introduction
The Vision Book starts by looking at a child in their early years, at the time of diagnosis, and covers their experience at school and into early adulthood.

Section 1: Early years
Early diagnosis is good news! It is important to pick up a child's vision impairment early. That way, you can get the help you need as soon as possible.

Section 2: School years
Most children who are blind, deafblind or have low vision attend regular classes at their local school and get access to extra help provided by their school

Section 3: Young adult years
Many blind or deafblind adults and adults with low vision live fully independent lives, get married, have families, play sport and work in a variety of jobs.
