Homai Residential Services provides residential placements for students who are blind or low vision and attend Homai Campus School (including the satellite class at James Cook High School) or Manurewa High School.

Residential Programmes

The residential programmes support the IEP goals and may include

  • Self care skills
  • Adaptive Daily Living Skills
  • Social skills and communication
  • Orientation and Mobility
  • Recreation and leisure

Students participate in the wider community and enjoy a range of activities including blind cricket, ten-pin bowling, cultural festivals and visits to Auckland’s Regional Parks.

Students’ accommodation and travel costs are provided and students travel home at the end of each term, either independently or with an adult escort as required.

Transition Pathway Programme

The Transition Pathway Programme provides an opportunity for young adults who are blind or low vision to make the transition to tertiary, the workplace or independent living. BLENNZ staff – including Resource Teachers Vision, Residential Youth Workers and support staff work closely with the students to support the development of individual goals and achievement.

Residential Services

Homai Residential Services provides residential placements for ākonga who are blind or have low vision and attend the Homai Campus School (including the satellite class at James Cook High School) or The Manurewa High School. Homai Residential Services provide residential accommodation for students in Nikau Hostel to support their best educational placement.
