Recently four ākonga and their RTV’s met at the Tauranga VRC to explore their understanding of their visual impairments.
They watched a video about the parts of the eye and completed an activity which provided information about the different parts of the eye and their function. Ākonga identified which parts of their own eyes were impacted and what that means for their vision. They developed their own Visual Profile that they can share in the future with others as they transition through school. It was great to share the different strategies with each other.
The ākonga shared what they had learnt about their vision and they all said that this greater understanding increased their confidence in asking for the accommodations they need at school.
