BLENNZ Taranaki – In-service Day

May 20, 2014

On the 12th of March 2014, BLENNZ Taranaki held an in-service course for the teachers and teacher’s aides working with learners who are blind, have low vision or with complex needs. The course was well attended with 21 participants.

We were fortunate enough to hold this course at a time when Kay Daly the BLENNZ Developmental Orientation and Mobility (DOM) Coordinator was in New Plymouth.

DOM was the focus of the in-service and both the participants and the BLENNZ Taranaki staff learned lots of valuable skills and information from Kay’s presentations and activities.

Each year we hold the in-service at New Plymouth Girls High School and this year our Visual Resource Centre has moved to NPGHS so we were able to have the afternoon practical sessions in our new Centre. This was very successful and a positive experience for our staff and also a lovely introduction for some of our community, to our new Centre.

The course was designed to empower the participants to work with their learners in areas of the New Zealand Curriculum and Expanded Core Curriculum to raise learner achievement.  The feedback from the in-service was very positive.
