Auckland going into lockdown became the catalyst for us examining what we could offer locally for our ākonga who were due to attend immersion. We were fortunate to secure the services of specialists in Activities of Daily Living, Music, Adapted Technology and Orientation and Mobility, at very short notice as well as Immersion facilitators Nic and Cathy.
Activities included; Swiss ball drumming via zoom with Wendy, Gendy teaching us ADL skills and how to cook muffins via zoom, an introduction to JAWS with Stephen Bennett and O&M skills.
This was an amazing example of BLENNZ working as a network, being flexible and responsive. Several teacher aides were also able to attend who found the sessions incredibly useful. A huge thanks to everyone involved, the response from the ākonga showed how much they appreciated all the effort.
