In Term Two we were excited to offer Pārekareka Rāpare (formerly Fun Friday) again. We had a theme of ‘rolling’. The session includes physical indoor and outdoor activities, assembling and cutting of sushi, social skills and lots of fun.
The students had the opportunity to learn some Japanese phrases, a little about Japanese culture, and some skills such as using chopsticks and folding origami. As this was during Matariki, the students learned what the constellation is called in Japanese.
We hope to continue these sessions in the future as it teaches a variety of skills and appreciation for other cultures. It is a great opportunity for students to meet and socialise with other learners with low vision.
