It was great to be able to host PLD in March in the Christchurch VRC. A variety of teachers, teacher-aides, LSCs and SENCO were invited to participate and learn more about how to support our visually impaired akonga.

A choice of six workshops were available for attendees to select from:

  • Low tech – suggestions/strategies to use in the classroom
  • iPad – useful iPad apps, inbuilt accessible features
  • Laptop – inbuilt accessible features
  • DOM – Orientation and Mobility and Sighted Guide
  • Braille devices – Abacus/Braille Sense/Braille Note
  • Accessibility – How to adapt curriculum material

The workshops included opportunities to see things from the perspective of a visually impaired learner, how this might affect their development and learning, and offered many different strategies and suggestions for support.
