BLENNZ Hamilton had the privilege of taking a group of ākonga and whānau to explore the Wharenui Harikoa at the Waikato Museum.

It was very exciting having Lissy and Rudi, the creators of this wharenui, there to explain their journey with creating this amazing piece of art. Ākonga had a chance to explore this creation by touch and learn about the various stories represented in this wharenui thanks to our excellent audio describers.

For several of our ākonga this was their first experience with a live audio description. It was exciting to hear how Lissy and Rudi had wanted to make this a tactile experience due their experiences with their own whānau who were kāpō.
