This year, Expanded Core Curriculum Days focused on developing everyday living and orientation and mobility skills through practical, real-life experiences.

Ākonga participated in a shopping simulation where they estimated costs, worked within budgets, and compared the cost of preparing food at home with buying takeaway. They then applied these skills by selecting and ordering the best-value pizza deal for lunch.

Students also planned and prepared a shared lunch in pairs by creating shopping lists, comparing prices using the Woolworths website, and learning about payment methods. During a visit to Woolworths, they completed a mapping scavenger hunt to locate departments and grocery items, purchased their ingredients, and returned to the centre to prepare and share kai together.
